What is The May 50K?

The May 50K is a community fitness and fundraising challenge for the MS International Federation's and UK MS Society. We are challenging people to walk, run or roll 50 kilometres throughout the month of May to raise funds for life-changing research into MS, and an international initiative to improve access to vital treatments for everyone affected by the disease - no matter where they live.

How much does it cost to register?

It’s completely free to register and participate in The May 50K. You can sign up here and leave your limits behind this May!

When and where is The May 50K?

The May 50K is an online fitness challenge which runs for one month from 1st May 2022 to 31st May 2022. You decide where and when to complete your challenge.

What About Coronavirus (COVID-19)?

Obviously our first priority is your health. Follow the official advice and don’t put yourself or anyone else at risk. People with MS may be at an increased risk of complications from a COVID-19 infection, so at this time it is especially important for people with MS and their caregivers to observe recommendations about social distancing.

One of the best things about The May 50K is that you do it on your own, even when you’re in a team. So you can keep your distance and run the distance!

Can I still do this in Lockdown?

The May 50K is a virtual fitness and fundraising challenge, which is highly interactive and can be completed on your own anywhere in the UK, with minimal risk to others – even in the comfort of your own home, garden or local park. 

Raising funds for life-changing MS research is now more important than ever. In this uncertain time it is crucial that we remember the importance of funding medical research, and that people living with MS still need better treatments, prevention and ultimately a cure. We now need your help more than ever!

It’s important that we stay fit and healthy during this time by looking after our physical and mental well-being. The May 50K is a great way to combine the two! Get active, stay connected as a community and help us keep driving the change that we all want to see, freedom from MS.

Let’s come together as a community to show that nothing will stop us from leaving MS where it belongs, behind us.

What do I have to do?

Wherever you live, whatever your fitness level, you can decide when and where to complete The May 50K. Really don’t like to run or walk? You could complete the challenge in a way that works best for you. If you are a wheelchair user, you can adjust the kilometres in a way that will be challenging for you. Setting a challenging personal goal will make it more likely others will sponsor you.

Can I swim or cycle my May 50K?

Absolutely! It’s up to you to decide where or how to complete The May 50K.


Can I start recording my kilometres in the lead up to May?

You certainly can! But we will reset your kilometres to zero on 1 May 2022.

Where do the funds go that I raise?

Every penny you raise will go towards the MS International Federation and UK MS Society.

The UK MS Society is teaming up with the MS International Federation so the money you raise will be shared to fund local and international projects. In the UK 70% of the money you raise will go to UK MS Society projects and 30% will help to fund life-changing research and access to treatment projects around the world.

The MS International Federation is the leader of the global MS movement. Through research we will help end MS forever, and until then we are ensuring that people have the essential care and treatment that makes life with MS more bearable.

The MS Society is the leading UK charity supporting everyone affected by MS. Our vision is a world free from the effects of MS and our mission is to enable everyone affected by MS to live life to their full potential. We provide a range of front line services designed to empower and support people affected by MS, to maintain their independence, quality of life and reduce social exclusion.

How do I update my fundraising goal?

Login to your The May 50K account and head to your dashboard. Click on ‘Edit my page’ and update your fundraising goal.

How do I log my kilometres online?

For detailed instructions on how to link your fundraising page to your fitness app, please click here.

You can log your kilometers in two ways:

  • Link your page to a fitness tracker or app

We are linked to FitBit, Garmin, mapmyfitness and Strava to automatically sync with your fundraising page and add to your kilometre tracker each time you record an activity.

You can use your smartphone to download FitBit, Garmin, mapmyfitness or Strava to get started. After creating an account with your preferred app, login to your The May 50K account and head to the ‘My Fitness Activity’ tab to connect to your fitness app.

Please allow 24 hours for your activity to show up on your fundraising page.

  • Log your kilometres manually

To log kilometres manually, simply login to your online fundraising page and head to the ‘My Fitness Activity’ to record your activity.
